Get a Pregnancy Quadruple Marker test at VRX Diagno Lounge, Goregaon West — adds Inhibin-A to the triple marker for higher detection rate. Performed at 15–20 weeks for second-trimester screening of Down syndrome, trisomy 18, and neural-tube defects. Report in 2–3 working days.
The Quadruple Marker Test is the most accurate second-trimester blood screen, performed at 15–20 weeks. It adds Inhibin-A to the triple marker (AFP, free β-hCG, uE3), raising T21 detection to about 80%. Indicated when first-trimester screening was missed, in twin pregnancies, and as the standard second-trimester option in many centres. Combined with anomaly scan, it gives a complete second-trimester evaluation.
Specific marker pattern — low AFP/uE3, high βhCG/Inhibin-A
All four markers typically low
Markedly raised AFP — spina bifida, anencephaly
Raised AFP — gastroschisis, omphalocele
Some marker patterns associated with placental issues
Different reference ranges in twins
Standard second-trimester screen if first-trimester was missed
Higher baseline aneuploidy risk
More accurate than triple marker in twins
Higher NTD risk
Strongly recommended
Higher anomaly risk
Cost-effective second-trimester alternative
Standard screening component
| Parameter | What It Measures | Reference Range |
|---|---|---|
| AFP | Alpha-Fetoprotein | Multiples of median (MoM) |
| Free β-hCG | Free beta-hCG | Multiples of median (MoM) |
| uE3 | Unconjugated Estriol | Multiples of median (MoM) |
| Inhibin-A | Added 4th marker | Multiples of median (MoM) |
| T21 Risk | Detection ~80% (vs ~70% triple) | Reported as 1: x |
| T18 / NTD Risk | Edwards & neural-tube risk | Reported as 1: x |
Low combined risk across all categories — routine antenatal care with anomaly scan continues. Continue routine yearly screening if you have risk factors.
Screen-positive results prompt genetic counselling and consideration of amniocentesis or NIPT for definitive diagnosis. Your physician will correlate with symptoms and history.
Every report is reviewed by an experienced pathologist with clear interpretation and clinical comment.
