Get a Foetal Echocardiography scan at VRX Diagno Lounge, Goregaon West — a detailed evaluation of foetal heart structure and function performed at 20–24 weeks (or earlier in high-risk cases). Used for women with risk factors or abnormal heart findings on anomaly scan. Same-day radiologist-reviewed report.
Foetal Echocardiography is a specialised ultrasound that examines the foetal heart in detail — chamber sizes, valve function, great vessel positions, septal integrity, and rhythm. It is performed at 20–24 weeks (or as early as 16 weeks in selected cases). Indications include maternal diabetes, family history of congenital heart disease (CHD), increased NT, abnormal cardiac findings on anomaly scan, and IVF pregnancies.
Holes in heart partitions — common congenital defect
Combination of 4 cardiac defects — needs early planning
Aorta and pulmonary artery swapped — life-threatening, surgical fix
Underdeveloped heart half — major surgical pathway
Narrowing of aorta — sometimes detected late
Tachy- or bradyarrhythmia — sometimes treatable in utero
Higher CHD risk — routine in all diabetic pregnancies
Especially first-degree relative
Even with normal chromosomes, raised cardiac risk
Standard follow-up
Slightly elevated CHD risk
SLE, Sjögren — risk of foetal heart block
Specific medications, retinoids, alcohol
Detailed evaluation needed
| Parameter | What It Measures | Reference Range |
|---|---|---|
| Four-Chamber View | All four chambers symmetric | Normal symmetry |
| Outflow Tracts | Aorta and pulmonary artery origins | Normal crossing |
| Three-Vessel View | Pulmonary, aorta, SVC | Normal alignment |
| Septal Integrity | VSD / ASD | Intact septum |
| Heart Rhythm | Foetal heart rate | 110–160 bpm regular |
| Cardiac Position | Levocardia, axis | Levocardia, normal axis |
Normal four-chamber view, normal outflow tracts, intact septum, and regular rhythm at 110–160 bpm are reassuring. Continue routine yearly screening if you have risk factors.
Detected defects need foetal-cardiology and paediatric-cardiology consultation. Some defects allow planned delivery at a tertiary cardiac centre with neonatal cardiac team ready. Your physician will correlate with symptoms and history.
Every report is reviewed by an experienced pathologist with clear interpretation and clinical comment.
If further evaluation is needed — Repeat Foetal Echo, Foetal Karyotyping, Foetal-Medicine Consultation, Paediatric-Cardiology Consultation, Postnatal Echo — all available at the Goregaon West centre.
