Get a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT / Spirometry) at VRX Diagno Lounge, Goregaon West — a non-invasive test that measures how much air you can inhale and exhale and how fast. Used to diagnose and monitor asthma, COPD, restrictive lung disease, and pre-operative lung assessment. Same-day report. Pre-bookable slots.
Pulmonary Function Test (Spirometry) measures lung volumes and flow rates as you breathe forcefully into a mouthpiece. It quantifies FEV1 (volume in 1 second), FVC (total forced volume), FEV1/FVC ratio, and other indices to detect obstructive (asthma, COPD), restrictive (fibrosis), or mixed lung diseases. A bronchodilator may be given mid-test to assess reversibility — useful in diagnosing asthma.
Reduced FEV1/FVC with significant reversibility after bronchodilator
Reduced FEV1/FVC ratio (less than 70%) with limited reversibility
Reduced lung volumes (FVC) with normal/high ratio — interstitial fibrosis, neuromuscular
Tracks improvement in FEV1 with inhalers and pulmonary rehabilitation
Workers exposed to dust, fumes, asbestos — early detection of damage
Before chest, abdominal, or major surgery in smokers and respiratory patients
Especially with breathlessness on exertion — for asthma/COPD diagnosis
Annual or 2-yearly screening for COPD
To monitor severity and treatment response
Mill workers, construction, mining, painting, welding — periodic monitoring
Major chest/abdominal surgery in smokers or respiratory patients
Underlying lung disease workup
Spirometry from age 5–6 onwards is feasible
To check for associated lower-airway involvement
| Parameter | What It Measures | Reference Range |
|---|---|---|
| FEV1 | Volume exhaled in 1 second | Lab-reported predicted % |
| FVC | Total forced exhaled volume | Lab-reported predicted % |
| FEV1/FVC Ratio | Diagnoses obstruction | > 70% (normal) |
| PEF | Peak expiratory flow | Lab-reported |
| Bronchodilator Reversibility | > 12% & 200 mL increase = positive (asthma) | Asthma test |
| Severity Grading | Mild / Moderate / Severe / Very Severe | Based on % predicted |
Normal lung volumes, FEV1, and FEV1/FVC ratio above 70% suggest no significant obstructive or restrictive disease. Continue routine yearly screening if you have risk factors.
Reduced ratio = obstruction (asthma if reversible, COPD if not). Reduced volumes with normal ratio = restriction. Severity is graded by % predicted FEV1. Your physician will correlate with symptoms and history.
Every report is reviewed by an experienced pathologist with clear interpretation and clinical comment.
