Get an HBsAg (Hepatitis B Surface Antigen) blood test at VRX Diagno Lounge, Goregaon West — the standard screening test for current Hepatitis B infection. Used for routine screening, pre-employment, antenatal, pre-surgical, and after possible exposure. Confidential reporting. Same-day report. 24×7 home collection.
HBsAg is a protein on the surface of the Hepatitis B virus and the first marker to appear in blood after infection. A positive HBsAg indicates current infection — either acute or chronic. It is the standard screen for antenatal care, pre-employment, blood-donor screening, before surgery, after needle-stick or unprotected exposure, and family contacts of known carriers. Hepatitis B is preventable with vaccination.
Positive HBsAg with raised liver enzymes and recent exposure history
HBsAg positive for over 6 months — needs ongoing follow-up and possible treatment
Routine in pregnancy — to plan vaccination and immunoglobulin for newborn
Mandatory in every blood donation to prevent transmission
Standard occupational screen, especially for healthcare workers
Needle-stick injury, unprotected sexual exposure, contaminated tools
Routine in early antenatal care
Mandatory pre-employment and periodic screening
Mandatory before donation; advisable after multiple transfusions
Household contacts of HBsAg-positive persons should be screened
Prompt screening with follow-up at 6 weeks and 3 months
Confidential testing recommended
Reactivation risk — screen before starting therapy
Especially for vaccine planning
| Parameter | What It Measures | Reference Range |
|---|---|---|
| Negative (Non-Reactive) | No current Hepatitis B infection | Below assay cut-off |
| Positive (Reactive) | Current Hepatitis B infection | Above assay cut-off |
| Acute vs Chronic | HBsAg positive > 6 months = chronic | Confirm with repeat test |
| Confirmation Tests | If positive, follow-up panel | Anti-HBc, HBeAg, HBV-DNA, LFT |
Negative (non-reactive) HBsAg means no current Hepatitis B infection. If unvaccinated, consider Hepatitis B vaccination. Continue routine yearly screening if you have risk factors.
Positive HBsAg requires confirmation and further evaluation — Anti-HBc IgM (acute), HBeAg, HBV-DNA, and LFT to determine activity, infectivity, and need for treatment. Your physician will correlate with symptoms and history.
Every report is reviewed by an experienced pathologist with clear interpretation and clinical comment.
If further evaluation is needed — Anti-HBc IgM, Anti-HBc Total, HBeAg, HBV-DNA, LFT, USG Abdomen, FibroScan — all available at the Goregaon West centre.
