Get a Neuropathy Screening (NCV / EMG) at VRX Diagno Lounge, Goregaon West — combines Nerve Conduction Study and Electromyography to diagnose nerve and muscle disorders such as diabetic neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, Bell's palsy, and Guillain-Barré syndrome. Specialist-supervised. Pricing on consultation.
Neuropathy Screening combines two complementary tests — Nerve Conduction Study (NCS / NCV) and Electromyography (EMG) — to evaluate the function of peripheral nerves and the muscles they supply. NCV measures how fast electrical signals travel through nerves; EMG records the electrical activity of muscles at rest and during contraction. Together they diagnose diabetic neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, Bell's palsy, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and many other nerve and muscle disorders. Pricing is shared on consultation as it depends on the number of nerves/muscles tested.
Most common indication — confirms nerve damage from long-standing diabetes
Median nerve compression at wrist — numbness/tingling in thumb, index, middle finger
Confirms nerve-root involvement and severity
Evaluates extent of facial nerve injury and prognosis
Acute symmetric weakness — NCV findings are diagnostic
EMG distinguishes nerve from muscle disease — critical for diagnosis
Especially long-standing diabetes — confirm and stage neuropathy
Suspected carpal tunnel syndrome
To localise affected nerve root and severity
Bell's palsy or other facial nerve disorders
Myopathy / motor neurone disease workup
Common peroneal nerve palsy and other entrapments
Symmetric numbness/weakness in feet and hands
Before nerve-decompression surgery
| Parameter | What It Measures | Reference Range |
|---|---|---|
| Nerve Conduction Velocity | Speed of signal along nerve | > 50 m/s (typical motor) |
| Distal Motor Latency | Time from stimulus to muscle response | Lab-reported normals |
| Sensory NAP Amplitude | Sensory nerve responsiveness | Lab-reported normals |
| Compound Muscle Action Potential | Motor response amplitude | Lab-reported normals |
| EMG — Spontaneous Activity | Fibrillation, fasciculation at rest | Absent (normal) |
| EMG — Voluntary MUAP | Motor unit pattern | Normal recruitment |
Normal NCV velocities and amplitudes with quiet EMG at rest and normal voluntary MUAP suggest no significant neuromuscular disease. Continue routine yearly screening if you have risk factors.
Findings such as slowed conduction, reduced amplitude, prolonged latency, denervation on EMG, or abnormal recruitment pattern point to specific nerve/muscle pathology — precise localisation is reported. Your physician will correlate with symptoms and history.
Every report is reviewed by an experienced pathologist with clear interpretation and clinical comment.
If further evaluation is needed — MRI Spine / Brachial Plexus, HbA1c, Vitamin B12, Thyroid Profile, Autoantibody Panel, Specialist Consultation — all available at the Goregaon West centre.
