Get a complete Liver Function Test (LFT) at VRX Diagno Lounge, Goregaon West — a comprehensive blood panel measuring liver enzymes (SGPT/ALT, SGOT/AST, ALP, GGT), bilirubin, total protein, and albumin. Used to detect and monitor hepatitis, fatty liver, alcoholic liver disease, drug-induced liver injury, and bile-duct disorders. Pathologist-reviewed report on the same day. 24×7 home collection across Goregaon, Malad, Jogeshwari, Oshiwara, and Kandivali.
The Liver Function Test (LFT) is a panel of blood markers that together evaluate the health, synthetic function, and bile-handling capacity of the liver. The standard panel includes SGPT (ALT), SGOT (AST), Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), GGT, Total Bilirubin, Direct Bilirubin, Total Protein, Albumin, and Globulin. It is used to detect hepatitis, screen for fatty liver, monitor patients on long-term medication or alcohol use, and investigate jaundice or unexplained fatigue. At VRX Diagno Lounge, Goregaon West, the panel uses 3 ml of blood, fasting for 10–12 hours is recommended, and the pathologist-reviewed report is issued the same day.
Markedly raised SGPT/SGOT (often >3× upper limit) is the hallmark of acute liver-cell injury from viral, alcoholic, or drug-induced causes
Mild to moderate ALT elevation in the absence of alcohol — common in obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome
Rise in ALP, GGT and direct bilirubin suggests gallstones, biliary stricture, or pancreatic head tumours
Tracks safety of long-term medications such as anti-tubercular drugs, statins, methotrexate, and anti-epileptics
Low albumin, raised globulin, and prolonged PT — when combined with imaging — indicate advanced liver damage
Bilirubin fractionation distinguishes pre-hepatic (haemolysis), hepatic (hepatitis), and post-hepatic (obstruction) causes
Any sign of jaundice, dark urine, or pale stools warrants an urgent LFT
Annual LFT is recommended for screening alcoholic liver disease — GGT and AST/ALT ratio are key markers
Anti-TB therapy, statins, methotrexate, anti-epileptics, and chemotherapy require periodic LFT
High prevalence of fatty liver — annual LFT alongside USG abdomen is recommended
Periodic LFT every 3–6 months is essential for monitoring chronic viral hepatitis
Routine pre-operative test to assess liver capacity to metabolise anaesthetic agents
Persistent tiredness, loss of appetite, or right-upper-abdomen discomfort needs liver evaluation
Recommended once a year for adults above 40, and earlier if risk factors are present
| Parameter | What It Measures | Reference Range |
|---|---|---|
| SGPT (ALT) | Hepatocyte injury marker — most specific for liver | M: 7–55 U/L · F: 7–45 U/L |
| SGOT (AST) | Liver and muscle enzyme — interpret with ALT | M: 8–48 U/L · F: 8–43 U/L |
| Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) | Bile-duct and bone marker | 44–147 U/L (adult) |
| GGT | Bile-duct enzyme — sensitive to alcohol use | M: 8–61 U/L · F: 5–36 U/L |
| Total Bilirubin | Bile pigment — indicator of jaundice | 0.1–1.2 mg/dL |
| Direct Bilirubin | Conjugated bilirubin — raised in obstruction | 0.0–0.3 mg/dL |
| Total Protein | Albumin + Globulin synthesis | 6.0–8.3 g/dL |
| Albumin | Major plasma protein — synthetic function | 3.5–5.2 g/dL |
| A/G Ratio | Albumin to Globulin ratio | 1.1–2.5 |
All markers within reference ranges suggest healthy liver function. Repeat annually if you have risk factors such as obesity, diabetes, alcohol use, or chronic medication.
Mild rise = fatty liver, alcohol, or drug effect. Marked rise = hepatitis. AST > 2× ALT typically points to alcoholic liver disease. Confirm with viral serology and USG.
Every LFT report at VRX Goregaon is reviewed by a pathologist with clear interpretation, AST/ALT ratio analysis, and follow-up suggestions where appropriate.
